Angel Locsin stars in Pinoy version of Koreanovela Only You

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e68/owl4ever/starmometer8/angel_sam.gif

"Yes, first time and kumukuti-kutitap ako!" natatawang sabi ni Angel.

How does it feel to be working again?

"Ah, okay naman after nung one-week house arrest ko sa bahay. Back to work...back to work na. Actually, kahapon, kagagaling ko lang sa [taping ng] MMK [Maalaala Mo Kaya]...kanina pala. Diretso kanina at ngayon diretso ako dito sa trade launch para i-entertain naman natin ang mga kapatid nating advertisers."

ONLY YOU. Ano ang bagong show niya sa ABS-CBN?

"Only You with Sam Milby and Diether Ocampo. Si Direk Rory [Quintos] ang director namin," sagot ng aktres. Si Direk Rory rin ang direktor ni Angel sa pelikula niya with Piolo Pascual na Love Me Again.

Magkaiba ba ang Only You sa naunang lumabas na balita na ang gagawin niyang teleserye ay may pamagat na Buhay ng Buhay Ko?

"Hindi po... Ay, iba na kasi yung pini-pitch na project noon. So, iba na siya. Yeah, completely iba... Remake po siya ng Koreanovela and I'm sure... Tayo kasing mga Pinoy, mahilig kumain. Ako, guilty ako doon. So, itong ano namin, gagawing fusion ng Korean food at saka Filipino food. So, I think magugustuhan ito ng mga Pinoy. Maraming matututunan.

"Challenging yung role kasi first time ko gagawin yun. Medyo bagong approach yung ginagawa namin sa MMK. Mas nakaka-challenge, ganun, and nakakatuwa kasi yung ginagawa naming episode. At kaya rin ako pumayag na gawin ito kasi may cause talaga. Maramdaman din nila, maging aware sila [viewers] kung bakit nagkakaganito 'tong mga taong ito. Kaya kailangan nila ang pang-uunawa."

Kris Aquino happy with Showbiz News Ngayon’s pilot episode

“I asked him talaga. Ako ‘yung humingi. Kasi ‘yung Yes (magazine), ‘yun lang ang ang hindi ipinakita, eh. So, sabi ko ‘yun ang aabangan ng tao. Kasi that’s the only one they haven’t seen ‘di ba? So, ‘yun,” bungad ni Kris pagkatapos ng initial telecast ng SNN. Nilapitan ba niya si Willie para pumayag na ipakit ang yate niya on TV for the first time sa SNN? “Ah, he asked me to host. ‘Di ba nu’ng birthday niya. Tapos sabi niya, ‘Ano ang ibibigay ko sa ‘yo?’ Sabi ko, ‘Wala. I-tour mo ako sa yate mo for my pilot (episode). Alam mo mapagbigay naman siya, e. Supportive siya talaga.”

Ano ang pagkakaiba ng SNN sa Sunday showbiz-oriented talk show nila ni Boy na “The Buzz?”

“Don’t you feel it already? Na ‘di ba you’re not gonna tour people around their home? Parang ako ang feeling ko remember ‘yung parang it’s Starstudio, Yes, US Weekly, Entertainment Weekly People and Life and Style magazine come to life. Kasi ‘di ba ang ‘Buzz ‘ is strictly interview and intriga-based. Eto may lifestyle, may intriga, kumpletong-kumpleto. And thank you very much sa News and Current Affairs kasi sinuportahan nila ‘di ba? All-out ‘yung support so they also file stories with us. It’s very current. Kaya lang ano kasi Buzz is once a week ‘di ba? Eto gabi-gabi talaga. Like kanina I think ‘yung kay Anne (Curtis) na interview lunch time. ‘Yun ang maganda talaga and it’s nice.”

“Wala kaming pini-pick na story except for one major story. So, it gives me more time talaga. I was able to have breakfast with James. Kanina nag-yoga ako. Hinatid ako, kasi walang school si Joshua kanina, hinatid ako ni Joshua at ni Baby James. Nakapag-meryenda pa kami together. I should have dinner with them kaya lang mas gusto ko’ng magsimba so I left them at 5:30 pm para mag-masss. Pero it gives me the opportunity na Monday, Thursday and Friday, I can have breakfast with my family. I can have dinner with my family and it gives me a chance to have yoga everyday. Except kapag may isang major story na I have to do and Boy have to do. ‘Di ba ‘yung kay Willie ako ‘yun. So, du’n. But it’s generally, ang saya. You’re done! Yahoo,” masayang sabi ni Kris. After seeing Willie’s yacht, may balak na rin ba si Kris na bumili ng kanya? “I don’t know how to swim. Hindi ako natuto. Baka itulak nila ako (laughs).” Baka raw matulad si Kris sa foreign celebrity na si Natalie Wood na namatay dahil sa pagkalunod. “Korek! ‘Yun ang iniisip ko talaga. Diyos ko! Made-dead ako. I don’t know talaga. Hindi ako talaga natuto.”

Kasabay na nag-pilot din kahapon ang bagong morning show na pumalit sa Boy & Kris, ang Ruffa and Ai. Napanood ba niya ang first episode nito? “Yes, it’s super cute. Kasi it really feels like they were super enjoying themselves. Uh, in any pilot hahanapin mo ‘yung enthusiasm. I was especially impressed the way si Ai (Ai delas Alas) could connect with the audience. Ang galing! It was so natural and so fresh,” tapos ni Kris.

'Ruffa and Ai' energizes ABS-CBN morning slate

Ruffa Gutierrez and Ai-Ai delas Alas team up for Ruffa and Ai

"We'll still be ourselves, siyempre, hindi naman ibig sabihin na nasa morning show kami and super trying hard na [kami] to know everything," says Ruffa Gutierrez (right) about her new morning talk show show with Ai-Ai delas Alas (left) titled Ruffa and Ai.

Actress-host Ruffa Gutierrez and actress-comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas shared their happiness with the success of the pilot episode of their morning show “Ruffa & Ai,” this Monday, February 16.

In an exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Guttierrez said that she’s overwhelmed and honored to work with the country’s Queen of Comedy.

“Ay naku! Haping-happy ako kasi grabe talagang napakataas ng energy. Talagang pag-live show pala especially kapag morning anything goes, tanggal na yung sapatos , tanggal ang lapel,” she said.

“Si Ai-Ai na a-aaching yung talagang wala lang, relax lang,” she added.

For the first episode of “Ruffa & Ai,” host-talent manager Boy Abunda introduced the new queens of morning show.

Actress-endorser KC Concepcion was the show’s first mystery guest. KC gave rice, salt and sugar as a sign of good luck for the newest show.

Singer-actress Sarah Geronimo was also present to talk more about her upcoming movie “You Changed My Life” with actor John Lloyd Cruz.

The singer also shared her love for dogs and even showed her three small dogs on camera.

Last but not the least, one of the hottest actors Gabby Concepcion revealed his talent on dancing “swing” as he also shared his special moments in taking good care of his youngest baby Sam.

Gutierrez said that she’s hoping that people will really learn to love and embrace her new show with delas Alas.

“Well sana magustuhan ng mga viewers actually kanina kinakabahan kami kanina ni Ai-Ai pero sabi ko bahala na si Batman. So I’m just happy na mukhang nag-enjoy naman ang audience sana nag-enjoy din ang mga viewer,” she added.

“Ruffa & Ai,” the morning show that replaced “Boy & Kris”, has a format of giving surprises not only to television viewers but especially to their live audience.

“Everyday magbibigay kami ng pabuenas at saka everyday mayroon kaming sayaw. Talagang first time kong magsayaw in so many years kaya hindi kaya ng aking mga paa. Ang tawag ay ‘by the Ruffa & Ai” dance na lang yan an gaming signature dance na ituturo ko mamaya kay Lorin and Venice,” Ruffa said.

During the interview, both were asked what the viewers can expect during their pilot episode to be aired today, February 16.

Catch the premiere telecast of Ruffa and Ai this Monday, February 16, at 10:15 in the morning on ABS-CBN.

Kissing: It really is all about chemistry

CHICAGO - Valentine Lotharios beware: There's a lot riding on a kiss, new studies on the science of smooching suggest.

Researchers said kissing sets off a complex set of chemical reactions, and in some cases, a bad kiss could be the kiss of death for a burgeoning romance.

"A kiss is a mechanism for mate assessment," said Helen Fisher of Rutgers University in New Jersey, who is presenting her findings on Saturday at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Chicago.

Fisher, an anthropologist, told a news briefing that kissing is something more than 90 percent of human societies practice, but scientists are just beginning to understand the science of kissing, which is known as philematology.

One theory of kissing is that it is intended to promote bonding. Wendy Hill, a researcher at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania who is presenting her findings at the meeting, set out to test this on college students.

She was looking for changes specifically in oxytocin, a "love" hormone linked to feelings of sexual pleasure, bonding and maternal care. Since oxytocin has been known to lead to decreases in the stress hormone cortisol, she decided to look at that as well, she told reporters on Friday.

The researchers studied 15 heterosexual college couples between 18 to 22 who were assigned to either go off and kiss in a room in the college health center or just hold hands and talk to each other for 15 minutes.

Blood and saliva tests showed that men in the kissing group had a burst of oxytocin, but in women, levels of this hormone fell. "Cortisol levels for everyone declined," Hill said.

Curiously, she noticed that females using birth control pills had higher levels of oxytocin than those not taking the pills, which may been a factor in the findings in women.

Hill also said the atmosphere in the health clinic may have had something to do with the findings.

"We are exploring the possibility that the setting was not very romantic," she said. The next study will take place in a secluded room at the back of an academic building with flowers, candles, a sofa and jazz music playing in the background.

Fisher is taking a different approach in her research.

She has conducted a number of brain imaging studies and believes kissing can access any one of three primary brain systems used for mating and reproduction.

One is the sex drive, which is tied primarily with testosterone, she said. The second is romantic or passionate love, which she said motivates people to focus on one mate.

And the third is attachment, which helps couples stay together, at least long enough to rear a child.

Fisher said she thinks kissing activates different chemicals that stimulate these different regions of the brain.

"We do have evidence that saliva has testosterone in it. And there is also evidence that men like sloppier kisses, and more open-mouthed kisses. That suggests to me they are unconsciously trying to transfer testosterone to trigger the sex drive in women," said Fisher, who thinks kissing is just the tip of the iceberg.

"I think we will find all kinds of chemical systems are at play in courtship that we are not aware of," she said.

Cristine Reyes gets turned off by kiss-and-tell guys

Did Cristine Reyes turn down former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Kian Kazemi even before he could make his first move?

While she was being interviewed by reporters, Reyes was asked about a reported bouquet of roses sent by Kazemi.

Reyes confirmed that Kazemi had indeed sent her white roses on New Year’s Day. As the actress was describing the flowers, a reporter chimed in that there was also one red rose in the bouquet.

Reyes, surprised by the remark, asked the reporter where she got that information. The reporter responded that it came from Kazemi himself.

To which the now-visibly irritated actress replied: “Hindi na dapat pini-press release ‘yon, di ba? Ayoko nang gan’on? Turn off talaga sa akin ‘yong nalalaman muna ng press bago ako.”

The actress quickly added that she is not entertaining suitors right now.

When “The Buzz” sought Kazemi’s reaction, he denied that he was telling members of the press about his gesture.

‘Yong tinatanong ako kung sino ina-admire ko or kung sino ang crush ko sa showbiz, I was glad enough to say it was Cristine.”

Kazemi also answered in the negative when he was asked if he was courting Reyes.

High school students speak on leadership: 'I can make a difference'

I am a leader, I can make a difference.

With this premise, 12 senior high school students delivered speeches on
true leadership in the recently held grand finals of the Voices of
Leadership Elocution Competition on Wednesday.

The public speaking contest is a corporate advocacy of Volvo Philippines
launched last November 2008. It was organized by Viking Cars Inc (VCI), the
authorized dealer of Volvo cars in the Philippines, and Scandinvian Motors
Corp. (SMC), the official importer of Volvo cars in the country.

As varied as the schools the contestants came from, each speech gave
numerous definitions: from the universally known concept of "A leader is a
servant" to endearing ones as "Ang lider ay isang salmon" to serious
notions as "Leadership is a way of life."

For Chinese-looking (but purely Filipino) John Xavier Valdez from Ateneo de
Manila High School, "Leadership is not about power or charisma. It is not
social class or distinction. It is not about job experience or education."

In his grand prize-winning piece, Valdez said that leadership is "something
that transcends age, class, social distinction, gender, even the shape of
one's eyes. Leadership is about influence, nothing more, nothing less." He
added that, "Under this definition, every man, woman, child, in this nation
of 90 million is a leader in his own right."

Regina Isabelle Jaimee Ranada of Miriam College, the first runner-up,
played with the concept of the word yes. "Yes is a response. Leaders must
be responsive. A leader should care not only for the task at hand, not only
for the members of her team, but also for herself. Second, yes signifies
acceptance…you have to accept the fact that you are not perfect. Yes, is a
positive reaction. Leaders should react positively no matter the situation
may be. She should be ready to give affirmation," Ranada explained.

As for second placer Christian Earl Castañeda of La Salle Greenhills who
brought the house down with his quirky speech, he compared a leader to a
tree. "Ang puno ay nagbibigay buhay at pag-asa sa ating lahat. Ang puno ay
nagbibigay lilim sa atin kapag tayo ay naiinitan o nauulanan. At higit pa
kanyang sarili."

Regardless of the many metaphors, the majority of the speakers agree on one
thing: everyone can be a leader and everyone should start to create
positive and substantial change in their little ways.

"Marami kang matutulungang tao at pag-ibayuhin mo ang iyong talento. Kung
magaling kang kumanta, maaaring kanta mo ang sunod na kakantahin ng mga
Filipino ngayon. Kung magaling ka sa sports, malay mo, ikaw na ang
kauna-unahang mag-uwi ng gintong medalya sa Olympics," Castañeda said.

Being a good leader, as Ramada puts, "is about saying yes to being a role
model, which ironically enough, encompasses a lot of Nos." She adds that
"One yes inspires more Yeses."

Valdez further encourages that, "If we recognize the fact that we are all
leaders, and that we all have influence, and really use that in our daily
lives, we will bring out change. And we will become the very Messiah our
country desperately needs."

The other finalists are: Rebecca Ambil (St. Paul University Quezon City),
Anna Pizarro (St. Scholastica's College Manila), Maldova Marcos (OB
Montessori), Senando Santiago (UP Integrated School), Geraldine Felicio
(Assumption College), Miguel Roman Perez (Colegio de San Agustin), Beatrice
Sheena Tan (Saint Jude Catholic School), Joseph Chan (Xavier School), and
Marinella Belen (De La Salle Santiago Zobel).

Only the first

"It's the first and it's an advocacy that we'd like to continue," Albert
Arcilla, VCI president and chief executive officer, said after the event.
According to him, the results of the first batch were positive and
inspiring.

"We were very surprised, these students are very much in tune with reality.
They want to share their thoughts and their ideas. I think this is one
forum that will correct a lot of misimpressions about the youth," Arcilla
told abs-cbnnews.com.

The mechanics of the competition are quite simple. After receiving an
invitation, interested schools are will choose three representatives and
send these students to a two-day leadership seminar. During the seminar,
students are trained in different skills that enhance leadership and
responsibility among the students. They are also guided in the art of
public speaking and writing their pieces for the competition.

"We trained them in skills that we think are important for their own
personal growth and their contribution to society. When they came back to
their respective schools, they have their own respective competitions,"
Arcilla explained.

The winners in the internal school competitions will become the official
school representative in the grand finals, that way, every participating
school is represented.

Speeches should "best articulate the concept of "true leadership" inspired
by integrity of heart and excellent skills, God-centeredness, and
accountable and responsible stewardship," according to Arcilla.

The grand prize winner received P50,000 and a Voice of Leadership plaque.
The first and second runner-up each received a Voice of Leadership plaque
and P40,000 and P30,000, respectively. The winners' home schools also
received the same amount to support a school program to propagate the true
character of leadership among the faculty and staff. But the remaining
finalists didn't go home empty handed. Each received a Voice of Leadership
medal and P10,000 while their schools received P20,000.

For this reason, ABS-CBN management has decided to extend it for 20 weeks instead of airing it for just 8 weeks.

As the beautiful story continues, Santino starts to perform miracles openly. Though the priests were hesitant at first, Santino convinced them to agree since this is what 'Bro' wanted. The miracles generated different reactions from people, some believed while others got scared. But this won't stop Santino from performing miracles. In fact, Selda (Precious Lara Quigaman) will experience Santino's miracle. Nevertheless, Enrique (Albert Martinez) discredits Santino, saying that the miracles are not true.

Bataan residents help drive dolphins to safety

Local residents helped the Philippine Coast Guard, and other environmental groups, drive hundreds of seemingly disoriented dolphins away from the shorelines off the coast of Bataan to the safety of the open waters of Manila Bay.

The gentle mammals were first spotted very dangerously close to the shores of the coastal town of Pilar, Bataan, 135 kilometers northwest of Manila at around 6 am on Tuesday, on Feb. 10, 2009.

Three of the dolphins died of unknown causes. Some were observed to have been injured.

As of 3 pm, locals managed to drive the mammals as far as the town of Orion near Mariveles, Bataan.

Some locals brought kids with them on boats to marvel at the extraordinary event. The friendly mammals played and interacted with the humans before they were eventually shooed to safety.
