THE NEXT PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT
THE SEARCH FOR THE NEXT PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT HAS BEGUN ON ANC
ROUND ONE
Escudero vs. Gordon vs. Panlilio vs. Roxas vs. Teodoro
Five presidential aspirants gathered for the first time to prove they have what it takes to hold the highest position in the land.
Here's what they said at the
“Countdown to 2010: An ANC Leadership Forum”
last May 11 at the Ateneo De Manila University.
Francis Joseph “Chiz” Guevara Escudero
Age: 39
Birth Date: October 10, 1969
Vision of Governance: The next leader should be an effective change agent. He or she must follow and enforce the law. Can he or she also inspire us?
On President Arroyo’s positive contribution to the country. “Dahil sa ilang pag-aabuso sa batas, dahil sa ilang paglabag sa batas, dahil sa ipinagkait sa marami sa ating mga kababayan at hirap na dinaranas ng ating mga kababayan...minulat at ginising niya at marahil sa ilang parte ginalit niya ang maraming Pilipino para seryosohin ang kanilang pagpili ng susunod na pinuno natin.”
On the last movie he has seen. “You watch a movie not to feel depressed, you watch a movie to be inspired and to be encouraged. Kung kaya, ang huli kong pelikulang pinanood ay ‘Kasal, Kasali at Kasalo’ nina Juday at Ryan.”
On the 2010 national elections."Inaangkin na namin ang halalan na ito. Inaangkin na namin ang pamahalaang ito. Di na naming hahayaang maging sunod-sunuran na lang kami dahil ang aming paniniwala sa ngayon, ang kabataan hindi lamang pag-asa ng bayan, ang kabataan dapat maasahan na ng bayan.”
Richard “Dick” Juico Gordon
Age: 63
Birth Date: August 5, 1945
Vision of Governance: What this country needs is not a change of men but a change in men.
On President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. “Masinop mag-aral, may work ethic. Ang sabit niya ay sa governance…You have to be resolute in so far as your leadership is concerned. That I think is something na nagkulang siya.”
On how he will make a difference as a president. “Baguhin ang attitude. Aim high. Mag-ambisyon tayo. Bawal ang tamad—work ethic. Lalong bawal ang tanga—mag-aral tayo. Duty muna bago ang sarili. Dignidad at determinasyon—ginawa namin sa Subic iyon.”
On why he admires his father former mayor James L. Gordon. “He was a man born an American, but elected to be a Filipino… Pardon me if I’m getting emotional because sa tingin ko maraming hero sa mundo but you have to live your heroism not during your death but during your whole life. Sapagkat iyon ang nakita ko (sa kaniya).”
Eddie “Among Ed” Tongol Panlilio
Age: 55
Birth Date: December 6, 1953
Vision of Governance: Stand up against bad governance, social ills of jueteng and quarrying abuses.
On the factors that will make him run for national office. “If the people would like me to run, feel, believe that I should run for the presidency or for the vice presidency, kung tutulungan ako, then I might go for it.”
On his “unpleasant” relationship with Pampanga politicians.
“Well, I would say that, also many like me...I believe deep in my heart, it is the people who espouse bad politics who hate me. Remember, I was able to curb…at least to minimize corrupt practices in my sphere of influence.”
On his stand on the issue of family planning. “I believe we should address this in a spirit of dialogue, and I don’t believe we have dialogue that much…This issue is connected with poverty, with lack of education, so we might be negotiating and debating up there but the underlying causes are not addressed. So I believe these should be addressed first.”
Manuel “Mar” Araneta Roxas II
Age: 51
Birth Date: May 13, 1957
Memorable Quote: Do I want change for our country? The answer is yes. Do I think I can do a better job? The answer is yes.
On the state of the country today. “Our nation today is on a platform or a foundation of sand. Hindi tayo nakapatong sa matibay na bato ng moralidad at katarungan. Kaya kahit anong pera na gastusin natin sa budget nitong taon na ito…kahit anong pagsisikap ng ating mga kababayan, hindi pa rin tayo makabuo, wala pa rin tayong napapala, o di kaya naman, hindi tayo umuusad.”
On the issue saying he’s just using Korina Sanchez. “Mahal ko si Korina. Matagal kaming nagsama—limang taon. Nagkakaintindihan kami, may pangarap kami para sa isa’t-isa at matibay an gaming samahan. Tulad ng sinabi mo, mga kritiko ko ang nagsasabi noon. So, inggit lang sila.”
On the global financial crisis. “Ang bawat bansa ay pinoproteksiyonan ang kanilang bawat interest. Iyan din ang dahil kung bakit noong ako ay nasa DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) ay hindi ako sumang-ayon na matuloy itong Doha Globalization Round. Bumoto ako na itigil ito dahil pinagsasamantalahan tayo. At iyan naman ang aking track record. Sa bawat pagkakataon na maaaring manindigan, doon ako parati kampi sa api.”
Gilberto “Gibo” Cojuangco Teodoro Jr.
Age: 44
Birth Date: June 14, 1964
Vision of Governance: The Philippines must be a stable platform of investment, with strong institutions, peace and order, and the efficient delivery of basic goods.
On the “Cojuangco” factor. “Kung may sense po at nasa batas at nasa lugar ang kanilang (Cojuangco relatives) mga suhestiyon sino ba namang tututol. Pero kung hindi po nasa lugar, kaya naman po nating tutulan iyan at napatunayan na po natin iyan.”
On amending the Philippine Constitution. “Ang aking pananaw, hindi lang kailangan ng values or renewal of values or pananaw. Institutions shape behavior. It motivates behavior. And I think our institutions, time and again, people have said they need to be changed.”
On being associated with an “unpopular” president. “Hindi ako takot maging John McCain. Dito ako naninindigan, dito ako naninilbihan… Hindi naman ako isang tao na maninilbihan—sumisilong sa isang bahay—na ikinahihiya ko ang bahay na tinitirahan ko. Hindi ako ganoong klase ng tao… no matter what one says for or against any other administration, history will be the judge.”
AND THE SEARCH CONTINUES...
ROUND TWO
SANTINO of May Bukas Pa
No amount of work load could stop these three stars from going back to school this year.
Amid their busy schedules, Zaijan Jaranilla, a.k.a. Santino, Erich Gonzales and Coco Martin were among the millions of youngsters who would troop to their respective schools Monday.
“Miracle boy” Jaranilla,7, said he is excited to go back to school. The “May Bukas Pa” lead star said he is intent on finishing his studies because, like any other child his age, he wants to become a doctor someday.
"Para po makatulong sa mga batang may sakit," said Jaranilla.
Last school year, the child actor and commercial model was one of the top 10 students in his class.
The next Korina Sanchez
Meantime, 17-year-old Gonzales would become busy not just with show business but with school works as well starting this month.
The lead star of "Katorse," an ABS-CBN’s upcoming television series, said she is a regular student at Trinity University of Asia in Quezon City.
"I'm second year college na taking up mass communication," Gonzales said.
She said she decided to take up mass communication because ever since she was young she dreamed of becoming a broadcast journalist like idols Korina Sanchez and Karen Davila.
"And perfect na din for my work kasi connected, hindi ba?" she said.
The teen actress admitted that it is not easy being an actress and a student at the same time. She said what is important is that she knows how to manage her time.
For Gonzales, finishing her education will be her most important achievement in life.
"Ako naman po nakakayanan ko naman. School muna bago taping…. if there's a will, there's a way. Kung gusto mo talaga ang isang bagay, gagawa ka ng paraan," she said.
Passion
Aside from acting, cooking is another passion of award winning actor Martin.
"Plano kong mag-culinary if ever na magkaroon ng chance kasi mahilig talaga akong magluto at ang lola ko cook talaga. So kung bibigyan ako ng pagkakataon, [why not?]" Martin said.
Martin also explained that it is important for him to finish his studies because he wants to have another career aside from being an actor. He said having a diploma is important especially if he is no longer active in showbiz.
The actor said he is also planning to enroll in a personality development program to further boost his confidence.
Dubbed as the "Prince of Indie," Martin first movie was “Masahista,” which won him the Young Critics Circle Best Actor Award in 2006. He also starred in “Kaleldo,” “Daybreak,” “Serbis,” Tambolista” and “Jay.” His first big television break was "Ligaw na Bulaklak."
Currently, Martin is busy taping for ABS-CBN's hit series "Tayong Dalawa."

Unlike the Metrostar Express (MRT) along EDSA, two other Metro Manila rail services cannot offer round-the-clock rides due to low volume of passengers.
According to Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) administrator Mel Robles, they cannot open LRT lines 1 and 2 until midnight as passengers seldom ride the train in those times. "Kasi hindi naman kami EDSA (MRT's route), mas konti [ang pasahero] namin. Kung kinakailangan, we will look into that and study the matter seriously," he said.
In the past, LRTA offered rides until 12 in the morning but the the volume of passengers were low in both lines. Line 1 starts in Monumento and ends in Baclaran while Line 2 starts from Santolan to Recto. Majority of Manila's passengers are students and employees who go off at the usual rush hour.
As classes opened in public schools on Monday, Robles took an early morning inspection from Cubao to Santolan and noted that passengers already flocked to the stations as early as seven in the morning.
"Gusto ko din makita kung gano kahanda. Meron kaming ginawa ng paghahanda para sa pagbubukas ng klase at gusto nating makita kung nasusunod ito at kung meron pang dapat gawin at kung tama naman yung pinag-usapan namin na dapat gawin," Robles said.
Fixing kinks
Before classes in all levels open on June 8, Robles said they are trying to fix minor kinks like faulty elevator systems. "Meron mga elevators that are out of service, pinapa-rush na namin yun. We are targeting na matapos yun pero sa procurement of spare parts ang medyo mabagal sa amin."
Passengers are expected to rise by about 20 to 30 percent for Line 2 this school year mostly comprising of students studying at the University Belt. For Line 1, there is an expected 10% increase.
"We need to bring in more coaches, and ang headway namin mga five minutes, even three minutes. Sa line 1, we can do two minutes and 10 seconds. As of the moment, all the coaches are in service, our required number of trains ay tumatakbo," he said.
Satellite stations and ticket vendors have also been put up to minimize long lines.
LRTA is coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to make sure construction accidents would not hamper the railway's operations. Last Friday, debris from a nearby construction site fell on the tracks of LRT line 1, causing transportation disruptions.
"We are coordinating with DPWH para higpitan yang ganyang klase ng construction near LRTA. That's unfortunate because that's beyond our control," Robles explained.
Fares remain at P12 and P15, and there are still discounts for senior citizens, said Robles. He clarified, though, that there is still no student discount.
"We give discounts to senior citizens but for the students, we don't do that. For the distance, that's the cheapest that's why this is the preferred mode of transportation. It is the lowest fare in the world. The subsidy of the government is up to P40. The fares have not been increased in six years so there is no need for a discount anymore," Robles said.
as of 06/01/2009 3:10 PM[Joseph Estrada, Noli De Castro, Francis Escudero, Manny Villar and Mar Roxas]
Senator Manuel 'Mar' Roxas II gained ground in the latest opinion poll of Pulse Asia, allowing him to join a pack of five leading candidates for president in the 2010 elections.

Based on the May 4-17 survey of Pulse Asia, the race remains tight with Vice-President Noli de Castro, Senator Francis Escudero, former President Joseph Estrada, Senator Manuel Villar, and Roxas in a statistical tie.
De Castro was chosen by 18% of respondents; Escudero was chosen by 17%; Estrada by 15%; Villar by 14%; and, Roxas by 13%.
The survey has a margin of error of plus/minus 3%.
"If the May 2010 elections were held today, [these] five individuals would garner the same percentages of votes cast," according to Pulse Asia Inc. Chief Research Fellow Ana Maria Tabunda.
Roxas was the biggest gainer from the February 2009 survey, gaining 5 points.
Senator Loren Legarda was sixth with 7% in a statistical tie with Senator Panfilo Lacson (4%) and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay (4%).

They were followed by Senator Richard Gordon (1%), business tycoon Manny Pangilinan (1%), Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno (1%), and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro (1%).
The survey is based on a sample of 1,200 representative adults 18 years old and above.
Respondents were asked to choose their preference for president from a list of 16 names.

“Anong tukso?
“Wala, nag-usap man kami. Nag-usap man kami before the fight. After and before the fight, nagusap man kami sa phone. Tinext at saka tawag.’

Comelec thumbs down all 7 bidders
And then there was none.
The Special Bids and Awards Committee (SBAC) of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has disqualified all seven consortia that submitted bids to automate the May 2010 polls, an ominous sign that the P11.3 billion project could be sidelined.
But a Comelec commissioner said “it is too early yet to give up” since the companies were given time to submit their motions for reconsideration.
“Some of those disqualified were due to paper requirements. I think they can easily remedy that,” the source said.
The SBAC has declared Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. ineligible to participate in the bid after one of its partners “failed to show proof of projects,” said a Gilat official, who asked not to be named. The Gilat official said the firm will file a motion for reconsideration.
Earlier the SBAC disqualified Avante International, Indira Elections Consortium, Sequoia Voting Systems and Universal Storefront Services, Syrex Inc. and Amalgamated Metro Phils., and AMA Group of Companies and Election System and Software.
The firms were disqualified one after the other since the Comelec started on Monday opening the bids and examining the qualification of the bidders. The firms were given three days to submit their motions for reconsideration.
The companies are bidding to provide Comelec with a paper-based automated election system, a provision for electronic transmission of results and overall project management.
The Comelec commissioner, who asked not to be named to avoid being misconstrued for interfering with the bidding procedure, said the SBAC is expected to come up with a resolution based on the motions for reconsideration submitted by the rejected firms.
“We will see what happens next,” the poll official said.
The SBAC ‘s rigid examination of the qualifications of the bidders has earned mixed reviews from observers and the bidders.
But the poll body justified the strict implementation of the law to avoid a repeat of the Megapacific scandal in 2004.
Megapacific won the bid to provide around 2,000 counting machines for the 2004 national polls, but the Supreme Court declared the award null and void as it ruled that the bid and award were tainted with irregularity.

DOH says two suspected cases of A (H1N1) infection in Cebu
Two travelers who arrived in Cebu are being tested for the influenza A (H1N1) virus, Health Secretary Francisco Duque told ABS-CBN News on Tuesday.
Duque declined to give more details except to say that specimens will be taken from the two individuals and brought to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Manila to test for common flu viruses.
If the tests are negative for common flu viruses, then it means that the two individuals could be carriers of the H1N1 virus.
The specimens will then be brought to laboratories in Australia and the US Center for Disease Control, which can confirm whether the cases in Cebu are influenza A (H1N1).
Cebu cases
Rico Lucena of ABS-CBN News Cebu reported on Tuesday that a Filipino male with fever arrived with his wife from Hong Kong at 11 am Tuesday. They were originally from Ireland and had stopped over in Hong Kong, which both have cases of influenza A (H1N1).
The thermal scanner at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport terminal detected that the Filipino male had fever, which was later confirmed by quarantine personnel after they took his temperature orally.
The Filipino was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for tests.
Aside from him, a 26-year-old female Caucasian tourist, who arrived over a week ago, volunteered to be checked for the H1N1 virus as she was coughing and felt weak.
She was brought to an isolation room at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. The female tourist, accompanied by her husband, had originally come from Mexico.
Meanwhile, RITM director Dr. Remigio Olveda said they have a satellite site at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, which will undertake the respiratory swabs on the two patients.
The specimens will be preserved and brought to the RITM in Manila. The specimens have to be tested within 72 hours after they are taken from the patients. The RITM will need eight hours to find out the results of the respiratory swab.
If the laboratory tests confirm these are swine flu cases, the Philippines would be the third in East Asia breached by the virus. Hong Kong and South Korea each have one laboratory-confirmed swine flu case but with no deaths.
Over 1,000 cases
Based on its latest May 4 bulletin, the World Health Organization (WHO) said "21 countries have officially reported 1,085 cases of influenza A (H1N1) infection."
"Mexico has reported 590 laboratory confirmed human cases of infection, including 25 deaths. The United States has reported 286 laboratory confirmed human cases, including one death," the WHO said in its latest advisory.
The WHO said the "following countries have reported laboratory confirmed cases with no deaths - Austria (1), Canada (101), China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (1), Costa Rica (1), Colombia (1), Denmark (1), El Salvador (2), France (4), Germany (8), Ireland (1), Israel (4), Italy (2), Netherlands (1), New Zealand (6), Portugal (1), Republic of Korea (1), Spain (54), Switzerland (1) and the United Kingdom (18).
The WHO advised "people who are ill to delay international travel and for people developing symptoms following international travel to seek medical attention, in line with guidance from national authorities."
The WHO said people should "wash hands thoroughly with soap and water on a regular basis and should seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms of influenza-like illness."
The new influenza virus is believed to be a combination of avian, human and two swine influenza viruses. -- with reports from JING CASTAÑEDA and RICO LUCENA, ABS-CBN News
Only You's lead stars take pride in their show's instant success
The Pinoy adaptation of the hit Koreonovela Only You proved to be a huge success as it became one of the top Kapamilya primetime shows on its first week of airing. Even its lead stars Angel Locsin, Diether Ocampo, and Sam Milby admitted that they were really overwhelmed with the viewers' all-out support to their first project together. "Nakakagulat yung pagtangkilik nila sa amin nila Diet and Sam kasi hindi pa naman talaga kami nagiging love team before. Hindi rin kami nabigyan ng pagkakataon na ma-establish yung team-up bago namin ginawa yung show. At sa Only You, hindi rin namin inexpect na malakas yung chemistry namin tatlo kaya mas napadali yung trabaho namin," said Angel in an interview with ABS-CBN.com.
With the way things are going right now, Diether claimed that he felt all the more inspired to work harder in giving their avid followers something good to look forward to every night. "Yeah, it's a big revelation for everyone dahil siyempre katulad ng sinabi ni Angel, first time namin magkasama at naging maganda naman yung resulta ng aming pagtatambal. Kaya excited rin kami na gumawa ng mas maraming proyekto together. For now, I am prety sure that our ratings will still gonna go up dahil siyempre naa-appreciate ng mga tao yung ginawa namin," he related.
Sam on the other hand pointed out that it helps that they enjoyed working with each other and were able to bond as a group during their recent trip to
As it happens, the only moment he felt a little awkward was when he and Angel were taping their sensuous love scene which aired last Friday. "That was shot in the boarding house. Aside from

Tulad ngayon, may games (Wowowee Olympics sa Araneta Coliseum on May 9) si Will. Mami-miss ko yun." pagtatapat ni Luningning sa amin. Sinabihan daw siya ng ilang kasamahan na makiusap kay Willie para siya'y ma-retain sa show. "(Sabi sa akin) Wala daw magagawa si Will( palayaw ni Willie) 'pag desisyon ng management," pangiti niyang sabi.
Sabi ng mga fans ni Luningning, miss na nila siya sa Wowowee..

Pacquiao KOs Hatton in second round
People's champ Manny Pacquiao scored a sensational second round knock out victory over Ricky Hatton Saturday (Sunday in Manila), decking the Brit three times during their "Battle of East and West" superfight at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao floored the Hitman twice in the first round before ending the fight with a hard left to the jaw that sent Hatton sprawling to the canvass. Referee Kenny Bayless looked at the unmoving Hatton and waved his hands to end the fight.
The fight ended 2 minutes, 59 seconds into the second round.
"I didn't realize it would be a short fight. That was my strategy, left hook and right hook, that was going to be the key to this fight. I expected my right hook to be dangerous for him," Pacquiao said in the post-fight interview.
The win is Pacquiao's 49th victory in 54 fights and garnered the Filipino champ Hatton's International Boxing Organization 140-lb crown as well as The Ring Magazine junior welterweight championship.
Hatton floored twice in Round 1
Both fighters immediately went down to business at the start of Round 1, with Hatton resorting to his clinching tactics.
Pacquiao tagged Hatton with a right hook to the face less than a minute remaining in the first round, decking the Brit for the first time since his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Although wobbly, Hatton got up but was again welcomed with a barrage from Pacquiao.
The Filipino threw a left straight to the head, flooring Hatton for the second time just 10 seconds remaining in Round 1.
Hatton survived to fight in the second.
In the opening of Round 2, Hatton came out strong. He rattled Pacquiao a bit but the Filipino was able to escape the attack.
With seconds remaining in the round, Pacquiao landed a perfect left hook to Hatton's jaw that toppled the Brit like freshly-cut timber. The knockdown prompted referee Kenny Bayless to stop the fight and hand the TKO victory to Pacquiao.
Compubox stats show Pacquiao landing 73 out of 127 punches. The "slower" Hatton was only able to land 18 out of 78.
Pacquiao won the IBO and the Ring Magazine junior welterwight titles. He also became the lineal champion of the the 140-pound division.
"I'm surprised the fight is kind of easy. He can punch, he has a strong left hand," said Pacquiao in FightHype.com.
"I'm satisfied, I'm always trying my best inside the ring. I can fight anybody, I hope everybody's happy," he added.
"I can fight anybody"
Pacquiao's victory also punctuated his coach Freddie Roach's prediction that Manny would knockout Hatton in three rounds.
"The Pacman" also revealed the new technique he brought with him into the ring. "My right hook is gonna be dangerous," he said.
Roach noted that he and Manny worked on the new "right hook" strategy everyday with the aim of leaving Hatton wide open for a right hook.
"I'm satisfied," said Manny of his short and sweet victory. "Nothing personal, I'm just doing my job."
When asked if he would like to fight Floyd Mayweather, Jr. should the latter defeat Juan Manuel Marquez in July, Pacquiao said, "I can fight anybody."
Roach, for his part, said that a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would be between the "two best fighters." He added that the fans would surely want to see such a fight materialize.

Watch Manny Pacquiao vs Hatton Fight Live!!!!
Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton will battle it out in a 12-round International Boxing Organization (IBO) and Ring Magazine light welterweight championship fight dubbed “The Battle of East and West” on May 2 (May 3, Sunday in the Philippines) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
You can watch it live in a slew of establishments in Metro Manila and key cities, which have been offering special screenings (some of which are free).

LAS VEGAS - Thousands of screaming British boxing supporters cheered on Ricky Hatton at Friday's weigh-in for Saturday's junior welterweight bout with Filipino Manny Pacquiao, who also had strong support.
Chanting "There's only one Ricky Hatton" over and over with some renditions of "God Save the Queen" and "Rule Britannia" thrown in as well, flag-waving backers of the English fighter drowned out their Asian rivals.
"It makes me feel really proud," Hatton told the crowd. "It's going to be an honor to fight for you Saturday night and you will not go home disappointed."
About 4,500 people, 90 percent of them cheering and chanting for Hatton, watched as the International Boxing Organization champion tipped the scales at the 140-pound limit, two pounds heavier than pound-for-pound king Pacquiao.
"I want to make you guys happy," Pacquiao told the crowd. "We're going to have a great fight."
The rowdy, English Premiership football-style atmosphere peaked when Hatton and Pacquiao traded glares, "Pacman" breaking the tension with a smile while "The Hitman" remained stonefaced as the crowd roared.
"When you have the Brits come over for Hatton, this is by far the biggest and best crowd I've ever seen," promoter Oscar de la Hoya said of the turnout. "I'm glad I retired so I can go have a pint."
Hatton said 25,000 British supporters have made the trip to Las Vegas for the fight at 15,000-seat MGM Grand Garden Arena, where the weigh-in was conducted with only about one-third of the capacity open to the public.
For many, it represented their only hope of seeing either fighter in person as the fight has been sold out for weeks. Hundreds of people stood on line for hours for the chance to see the weigh-in, practicing vocals during the wait.
Pacquiao, trying to become a champion in his record-tying sixth different weight division by lifting Hatton's crown, weighed-in at his second-heaviest size for a bout but was still fit enough to flex his ripped chest muscles.
The only time Pacquiao has weighed more for a fight was last December, when he was 145 pounds for an eighth-round stoppage of de la Hoya.
Hatton, undefeated at junior welterweight as he tries to take Pacquiao's pound-for-pound title, was at the 147-pound welterweight limit for his 2006 victory over Luis Collazo and his 2007 loss to Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
Other than those two fights, Hatton has been at 140 or less in every fight since January of 2000.
In the only other world title bout on the card, World Boxing Council super featherweight champion Humberto Soto of Mexico weighed 130 pounds, one pound heavier than Canadian challenger Benoit Gaudet.

Pacman is 22nd in Time's Most Influential People
Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao garnered more than 20 million votes in Time Magazine's online poll for the "100 Most Influential People" in the world but settled at the 22nd place in the selection.
Based on Time Magazine’s poll results, Pacquiao received a total of 20,391,818 online votes.
He, however, placed at the top 22 behind Elizabeth Warren of the US Congressional Oversight Panel, who only received 2,320,902 votes.
The online poll is just part of the criteria used by Time Magazine in determining the 100 Most Influential People honors.
Chosen as this year’s Most Influential is “moot”, a 21-year-old college student and founder of the online community 4chan.org.
Moot, whose real name is Christopher Poole, garnered 16,794,368 votes and an average influence rating of 90 (out of a possible 100).
Time Magazine said moot handily beat the likes of Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin and Oprah Winfrey.
Time Magazine managing editor Rick Stengel said they picked the 100 most influential people based on their role in changing the world.
“[These are] people who are using their ideas their vision their actions to transform the world that have an effect on a multitude of people. One of the difference in this year's Time 100 is that we're looking for people that are changing the world for the better,” he said.
Aside from moot, among those who made it into the top 10 are Anwar Ibrahim, Rick Warren, Baitulah Mehsud, Larry Brilliant, Eric Holder, Carlos Slim, Angela merkel, Kobe Bryant, and Evo Morales.

"Yes, first time and kumukuti-kutitap ako!" natatawang sabi ni Angel.
How does it feel to be working again?
"Ah, okay naman after nung one-week house arrest ko sa bahay. Back to work...back to work na. Actually, kahapon, kagagaling ko lang sa [taping ng] MMK [Maalaala Mo Kaya]...kanina pala. Diretso kanina at ngayon diretso ako dito sa trade launch para i-entertain naman natin ang mga kapatid nating advertisers."
ONLY YOU. Ano ang bagong show niya sa ABS-CBN?
"Only You with Sam Milby and Diether Ocampo. Si Direk Rory [Quintos] ang director namin," sagot ng aktres. Si Direk Rory rin ang direktor ni Angel sa pelikula niya with Piolo Pascual na Love Me Again.
Magkaiba ba ang Only You sa naunang lumabas na balita na ang gagawin niyang teleserye ay may pamagat na Buhay ng Buhay Ko?
"Hindi po... Ay, iba na kasi yung pini-pitch na project noon. So, iba na siya. Yeah, completely iba... Remake po siya ng Koreanovela and I'm sure... Tayo kasing mga Pinoy, mahilig kumain. Ako, guilty ako doon. So, itong ano namin, gagawing fusion ng Korean food at saka Filipino food. So, I think magugustuhan ito ng mga Pinoy. Maraming matututunan.
"Challenging yung role kasi first time ko gagawin yun. Medyo bagong approach yung ginagawa namin sa MMK. Mas nakaka-challenge, ganun, and nakakatuwa kasi yung ginagawa naming episode. At kaya rin ako pumayag na gawin ito kasi may cause talaga. Maramdaman din nila, maging aware sila [viewers] kung bakit nagkakaganito 'tong mga taong ito. Kaya kailangan nila ang pang-uunawa."

Kris Aquino happy with Showbiz News Ngayon’s pilot episode
“I asked him talaga. Ako ‘yung humingi. Kasi ‘yung Yes (magazine), ‘yun lang ang ang hindi ipinakita, eh. So, sabi ko ‘yun ang aabangan ng tao. Kasi that’s the only one they haven’t seen ‘di ba? So, ‘yun,” bungad ni Kris pagkatapos ng initial telecast ng SNN. Nilapitan ba niya si Willie para pumayag na ipakit ang yate niya on TV for the first time sa SNN? “Ah, he asked me to host. ‘Di ba nu’ng birthday niya. Tapos sabi niya, ‘Ano ang ibibigay ko sa ‘yo?’ Sabi ko, ‘Wala. I-tour mo ako sa yate mo for my pilot (episode). Alam mo mapagbigay naman siya, e. Supportive siya talaga.”
Ano ang pagkakaiba ng SNN sa Sunday showbiz-oriented talk show nila ni Boy na “The Buzz?”
“Don’t you feel it already? Na ‘di ba you’re not gonna tour people around their home? Parang ako ang feeling ko remember ‘yung parang it’s Starstudio, Yes, US Weekly, Entertainment Weekly People and Life and Style magazine come to life. Kasi ‘di ba ang ‘Buzz ‘ is strictly interview and intriga-based. Eto may lifestyle, may intriga, kumpletong-kumpleto. And thank you very much sa News and Current Affairs kasi sinuportahan nila ‘di ba? All-out ‘yung support so they also file stories with us. It’s very current. Kaya lang ano kasi Buzz is once a week ‘di ba? Eto gabi-gabi talaga. Like kanina I think ‘yung kay Anne (Curtis) na interview lunch time. ‘Yun ang maganda talaga and it’s nice.”
“Wala kaming pini-pick na story except for one major story. So, it gives me more time talaga. I was able to have breakfast with James. Kanina nag-yoga ako. Hinatid ako, kasi walang school si Joshua kanina, hinatid ako ni Joshua at ni Baby James. Nakapag-meryenda pa kami together. I should have dinner with them kaya lang mas gusto ko’ng magsimba so I left them at 5:30 pm para mag-masss. Pero it gives me the opportunity na Monday, Thursday and Friday, I can have breakfast with my family. I can have dinner with my family and it gives me a chance to have yoga everyday. Except kapag may isang major story na I have to do and Boy have to do. ‘Di ba ‘yung kay Willie ako ‘yun. So, du’n. But it’s generally, ang saya. You’re done! Yahoo,” masayang sabi ni Kris. After seeing Willie’s yacht, may balak na rin ba si Kris na bumili ng kanya? “I don’t know how to swim. Hindi ako natuto. Baka itulak nila ako (laughs).” Baka raw matulad si Kris sa foreign celebrity na si Natalie Wood na namatay dahil sa pagkalunod. “Korek! ‘Yun ang iniisip ko talaga. Diyos ko! Made-dead ako. I don’t know talaga. Hindi ako talaga natuto.”
